Completed in 1965, the Gateway Arch commemorates the vision of Thomas Jefferson and the role of St. Louis in the westward expansion of the United States.

This National Park Service site includes both the Gateway Arch and the Old Courthouse, which played a role in the court case of Dred and Harriet Scott, slaves who sought freedom in the 1840s and 1850s.
